Personal — Justice David S. Ritter was born in 1934. He began service as a Justice for the Appellate Division, Second Judicial Department in 1990. Justice Ritter was appointed by Governor Mario M. Cuomo and is a Republican.
Judicial Positions — Prior to serving on the Appellate Division, Justice Ritter was Administrative Judge of the Ninth Judicial District from 1988 to 1990. David S. Ritter was elected to the Supreme Court in 1985 and was an Orange County Court Judge from 1981 to 1984.
Government - From 1976 to 1980, he was Orange County District Attorney. During the years of 1970 through 1976 David S. Ritter moved from Assistant to Executive to Chief District Attorney of Orange County, New York. He was Special Assistant in the Office of the Attorney General from 1959 to 1962.
