Personal — Leo F. McGinity was born in 1927.  He began service for the Appellate Division, Second Judicial Department in 1996, appointed by Governor George E. Pataki.  Justice McGinity is a Republican.

 

Judicial Positions — Prior to serving on the Appellate Division, the Honorable Leo F. McGinity was appointed Administrative Judge of Nassau County in 1986.  In 1983 he was appointed Supervising Judge of the Criminal Courts of Nassau County.  Justice McGinity was elected to the Supreme Court in 1981.  He served as an Acting Justice of the Supreme Court since 1978.  He worked as a Nassau County Court Judge starting in 1976.

 

Government — Before starting his judicial career, Leo F. McGinity was Councilman for the Town of Hempstead from 1969 to 1976. 

 

Private Practice — Justice McGinity was engaged in the general practice of law from 1954 until 1976.

 

Military Service — Leo F. McGinity served in the United States Marine Corps from 1945 to 1946. 

 

Education — Justice McGinity obtained his law degree from New York Law School in 1954 and graduated with a BA from Georgetown.

 

Memberships — Justice McGinity is a member of the:  Nassau County Bar Association; Nassau County Criminal Courts Bar Association; Nassau County Crime Council n/k/a Criminal Coordinating Council of Nassau County; National Conference of Tax Judges.
