Personal — David Friedman 
was born in 1950 and is a Democrat. He became a Justice for the Appellate 
Division, First Judicial Department in 1999, appointed by Governor George E. 
Pataki. 
Judicial Positions - Prior to his Appellate Division appointment, David 
Friedman sat as a Justice of the New York State Supreme Court, Kings County, 
from 1998 to 1999. He was an Acting Justice of Supreme Court, Kings County, from 
1994 to 1997. He sat as a New York City Civil Court Judge in Kings County from 
1990 to 1993. 
Clerkships and Law Secretary Positions - Before Justice Friedman began 
his judicial career, he was a Law Secretary to the Honorable Nicholas Clemente 
from 1981 to 1990. He was a Law Secretary to the Honorable Justice Martuscello 
of the Appellate Division in 1980. From 1976 to 1980 he was a Law Assistant in 
the Appellate Division, Second Department. As a student, he was a Clerk at the 
New York State Attorney General's Office from 1974 to 1976. 
Academic — Justice Friedman was an Adjunct Assistant Professor of Real 
Estate from 1983 to 1992 at New York University Real Estate Institute.
