Judicial
Reassignment
The
Governor of the State of New
York has appointed the Honorable Leland DeGrasse
to the position of Associate Justice of the Appellate Division, First
Department.
Except
for Tax Certiorari and Condemnation matters, cases that have been
assigned to Justice DeGrasse (Part 25) will be reassigned at random to
other General Assignment Justices. All conferences and oral arguments
will be rescheduled. Motions that have already been argued before Justice
DeGrasse, but not yet decided will be transferred to the newly-assigned
Justices, who will either take the motions on submission or direct
reargument. Motions that have been marked submitted in the Motion Support
Office Courtroom but not yet argued will be returned to the calendar of
the Courtroom so that these motions and the cases in which they were made
can be reassigned. Motions that have been filed but are not yet fully
briefed and submitted will be reassigned to a new Justice at the earliest
return date in the Motion Support Office Courtroom (Room 130).
Tax
Certiorari and Condemnation cases that had been assigned to Justice
DeGrasse have been reassigned to Honorable Jane S. Solomon (Part 55).
Dates previously scheduled in this inventory will be maintained until
further notice otherwise.
If you have cases pending before Justice DeGrasse
please make sure their on your Watch List so that you will receive a CourtAlert 33 (Change of Judge) advising you
when the assignment has been changed.
Digital Audio Pilot Launched
Five federal courts are currently making digital audio recordings
of courtroom proceedings publicly available online through PACER as
participates in a one year long pilot. The U. S. District Court in
Nebraska and Eastern District of Pennsylvania, along with the U.S.
Bankruptcy Court for the District of Maine, Eastern District of North
Carolina, and the Northern District of Alabama have integrated their
recording and Case Management/Electronic Case Files (CM/ECF) systems to
make some audio files available on the Internet.
CM/ECF New Functionality
The
latest version of CM/ECF for Bankruptcy is scheduled for release later
this spring and includes a number of notable changes that have been
requested by PACER customers. For a complete listing of changes, see
"CM/ECF Notes" under "What's New" at http://pacer.psc.uscourts.gov/
Several courts have also upgraded their CM/ECF system and CourtAlert has modified its programs
accordingly:
A. CourtAlert Case Management and ECF integration
intercepts email notifications for ECF cases nationwide and with a few
clicks of the mouse it allows the user to integrate them into the firm's
internal docket.
B. CourtAlert for Pacer - Nationwide alerts
for new docket updates along with the optional PDF files has also been
modified for the latest changes.
Since both of these systems are nationwide, we will
continue to modify them as the courts CM/ECF systems change.
District Court Offers Mobile Version of Website
Like
most federal courts, the Northern District of Illinois created its
website long before the advent of e-filing and the proliferation of
hand-held computers. But on March 1, it became what is believed to be the
first federal court to offer a mobile version of its website according to
the Administrative Office of U.S. Courts. The mobile version, made
possible by specially designed software, allows visitors using a PDA,
BlackBerry, or other hand-held device to navigate the Chicago-based
court's website just as if using a desk-bound computer. Systems Manager
Mark Tortorici said that once the court decided
to go forward, "we focused on the most important things for those
attorneys who might be on the road or otherwise away from their office,
and who quickly needed to check the court's daily calendar, or the
clerk's office phone number, or where they might be in a judge's daily
call." The mobile version "offers a totally different
layout" for users of hand-held devices, Tortorici
said. And the website's software detects when a hand-held device is being
used, so the availability of the mobile layout is automatic and
seamless.
The Northern District of Illinois might of been the first court to offer a mobile version, but
CourtAlert was the first
provider of court data to design it's web site to work with PDA's as of
last year. CourtAlert ToGo has
been a valuable tool for attorneys outside the office. If you have not
had a chance to set this up on your PDA device please click on
"Quick Menu" at our home page and proceed to CourtAlert ToGo and we will
automatically send you the address to put in your Blackberry.
There is no additional cost for using CourtAlert ToGo.
